Somehow, SS hasn't made me understand the severity of the Rwandan genocide. It was 'Hotel Rwanda' that was shown during philo that really made me see how horrible the whole thing was. It's really traumatising to see everything happening. All because of a divide of ethnic groups thanks to the Belgians. (But then again that's just one of the theories, but the only one introduced by the movie) It's really dumb since Hutus and Tutsis supposedly don't have any very stark differences.

Paul: How can they not do anything? Don't they care?
Jack: I think that when people turn on their TVs and see this footage, they'll say, "Oh my God, that's horrible," and then they'll go back to eating their dinners.

We all knew we would die, no question. The only question was how. Would they chop us in pieces? With their machetes they would cut your left hand off. Then they would disappear and reappear a few hours later to cut off your right hand. A little later they would return for your left leg etc. They went on till you died. They wanted to make you suffer as long as possible. There was one alternative: you could pay soldiers so they would just shoot you. That's what her [Tatiana's] father did.

The shocking truth. I never thought humans were so brutal and vicious. And I guess this last quote sums it all...

"There is no such thing as an inhuman act, for there is no act so vile that you cannot find a human willing, even eager, to commit it." ~ Anonymous
